MIKES BIKES RACING – Open Invitation To Everyone To Participate In A Pre-Season Practice Race
By Steve Murray
Practice Race - Sunday February 20: Midland Academy Middle School corner of Psalmond Road and 6990 Warm Springs Road (Note: for the Auburn Flyers - This is the school parking lot we met in for a club ride last summer - Joe, Jason & Dave)
We will meet at 1:30 and the Training race is to begin at 2 pm. This means we will meet at the school and roll promptly at 2. We will use the Wildcat course. This was the AL/GA state Road Race (RR) course in the past and was used in the InMotion races. We will ride to the gate on 10th Armored Div. Rd. We will keep the group neutral to the loop and through one lap (approx. the first 23 miles). Once we hit the intersection of 10th Arm. & Old Buena Vista road - the gloves come off.
The intent is to have a good group ride -with some intensity. This will give us a 45 - 50 mile ride with 15 miles at race pace. We hope to gain some practice riding in a big group while neutral, and then some high-intensity with killer hills after that. Everyone is welcome and there will be a wide range of ability and experience. If you don't know - try it. You can always use this as a ride. Some of us need the race practice. If you ride and it is too much intensity - back off. You don't have to finish this race section - you paid no entry fee!
If we do get a fair turnout - there will be all levels of riders. We will try to compare finish positions with like skill levels. All in all the finish is irrelevant. Anyone who wants to race can use the practice prior to the season opener in Greenville the next weekend!
For the general group there will be no cash pot. For those who wish to participate - there will be a $2 drop - winner take all pot established at the beginning of the ride
